Start with one visual or musical detail and test how much meaning it can carry before adding another layer. Strong creative work often feels rich because its few decisions agree, not because it contains the most material.
Compare the result in its final environment. A choice that works alone may compete with dialogue, colour, movement or a human expression once the full work is assembled.
The FOI principle
Protect the human centre. Sound should deepen attention, give the image another dimension and remain memorable without forcing the audience toward a single reaction.
The final question is simple: does this decision make the story more honest? If the answer is no, clarity is usually found by removing rather than adding.
